The Citroen 2CV has been a symbol of French rural life almost from the day it was launched in 1937. It has been the heart and soul of many voyages of exploration around the back-routes and byways of Provence simply because it allows you to really feel at one with the countryside as you find the hidden secrets of this beautiful area. Our fleet of 2CVs are all professionally renovated and kept in perfect condition. You can take one for a self-drive voyage of discovery or join us for a chauffeured tour for anything from an hour to a week.

The Tours

We offer day tours from St Remy (just have a look at our Day tours page) visiting the Camargue, the Luberon, Ardeche Gorge, Mont Ventoux and many others, or longer tours to the Pyrenees, the French Alps, The vineyards of the Cote-du-Rhone or the Cote d'Azur (see our Ride-away tours page). All of these tours and days out can be enjoyed with a selfdrive rental or with our chauffeured tours.

The Cars

The 2CV is one of the great cultural icons of the 20th century. Whilst our chauffeurs don't all have stripy berets, t-shirts and big moustaches we do try to keep the spirit of the car alive. Our cars are all in original condition and drive like they did when they were new. The 2CV was designed to allow "a French farmer to cross a ploughed field with a basket of eggs on the passenger seat without breaking any of the eggs". The ride is famously soft but with a little practice you will find yourself driving like a true Frenchman.

What's included ?

All our cars are full 4-seater saloons with full-retractable roofs. We provide each car with a Garmin GPS navigation unit to guide you around and offer a full range of day or two-day tours for you to follow if you wish. We provide a full introduction to the magic of the cars themselves and will stay with you until you feel comfortable to drive away. You can also take one of our French mobile phones so that you can call us at any time for anything from directions to help with the restaurant menu.

Are they safe ?

Yes! You must, of course, remember that you're driving a 25-year-old car but if you drive it the way it was built to be driven then you will have a great time. The backroads of Provence are small and windy but offer a new vista around each corner - stopping to enjoy the view is all part of the fun. All of our 2CVs are the later models with disc brakes and the massive (!) 602cc engines which will not only save the planet but also allow you to cruise along in traffic with power to spare. We don't encourage you to take the freeway (although the cars are quite capable) simply because that's not what you're here for. Don't forget we chose St Remy as our base simply because its the best touring centre we could find. You can ride out of town in any direction and find a great day, just look at our tours sections to find out more.
